Colorado Springs and the Coronavirus
Cases of the COVID-19 virus (also known as the Coronavirus) are popping up all across America at a pretty rapid rate. Some people are beginning to panic and fear for their lives. While the virus is contagious, you shouldn’t live in fear of your life. Now that the coronavirus has officially reached Colorado Springs, anxiety is at an all-time high. Anxiety thrives in uncertainty and as people become more and more fearful the more this anxiety begins to take over their lives. The more you stress, the more vulnerable you can become to viruses, because stress can dampen your immune response in Colorado Springs.
WHY YOU SHOULDN’T BE AFRAID in Colorado Springs
- Low mortality rate. Only 2.3% of the 108,000 diagnosed cases of the coronavirus have actually resulted in death. Nearly all of those who have died from the virus already had drastic health issues or compromised immune systems. This means their bodies were not healthy enough to fight any sort of disease they would have encountered in the first place, whether it was the coronavirus or the common flu.
- High recovery rate. Most people that have been diagnosed are recovering very quickly. If you are a healthy individual under the age of 70 with no prior health risks, chances are your symptoms will only last a couple of days.
- It’s a mild illness. According to the CDC, children diagnosed with the coronavirus have reportedly only experienced symptoms of fever, runny nose and a cough, similar to the flu. They have also recovered extremely quickly. For adults, symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath are most likely to occur. Doctors across the board have agreed that while they have not discovered a “cure” to the virus, most individuals are recovering very quickly.
WAYS TO HELP PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS
- Limit your media exposure. Stress weakens your immune system making you more susceptible to certain diseases. While the media is covering the COVID-19 virus around the clock, it might be a good idea to take a break from the coverage. Being informed of what is taking place is good, but worrying yourself into sickness can do more harm than you think.
- Wash your hands. Studies have shown that washing your hands under warm water with soap for at least 30 seconds can reduce illness in people with weakened immune systems by 58% . It also reduces respiratory illnesses, like colds, in the general population by 16-21%.
- Mind your manners. If you are feeling under the weather it’s even more important to use your manners and cough into your sleeve or elbow rather than on your hands. Like most viruses, the COVID-19 virus is usually spread either through direct person-to-person contact or through different surfaces.
- Take your immune boosters! Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Elderberry, Green juices, and Ginger shots are some of the top natural ways to boost your immune system. A boosted immune system helps you be ready to fight whatever virus comes your way, even the COVID-19 virus.
- Visit your Colorado Springs chiropractor. Studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments can boost your immune system by up to 200%! While chiropractic may not be the “cure” to the flu you were hoping for, it does optimize nervous system function (which controls every other function in your body, including your immune system.) This gives your body the best possible chance of detecting, reacting, and healing from illnesses such as the coronavirus so that you can live without fear.
